Ultimate has returned to action after one of the most difficult years in memory. Summer camps, local and national tournaments, our youth club teams, Cutthroat and COSmic, and re-formed adult, college and high school club teams—all make things feel more normal. Still, we want to acknowledge what we have been through together, to keep each other and our broader communities safe and healthy, and to make our organization and activities wiser and better as we move forward.

In just the past few months we’ve seen laws restricting reproductive rights and voting access in Texas, as well as the Colorado Attorney General’s ruling confirming racist policing in Aurora. These are only two examples of where ultimate and the broader world intersect. (Please see these links for more information on how the Ultimate communities have reacted to these events: Texas |Aurora). Please consider the opportunities below to join us in helping grow Ultimate and making the sport an engine for a more just and equitable world.

Our Altitude Board is incredibly appreciative of our community and sport! Thank you all!

YOUTH

Fall Middle School Play

The primary focus for Middle School play this fall will be school-based - check this link here for schools that historically have teams and their contacts to see if your school has a program. Also, let us know if your middle school has an ultimate team that’s looking for some fun playing time this fall - send us an email to be added to the Team Finder list to set up inter-school games/scrimmages.

We will be hosting a One-Day Fall Tournament for teams on Sunday, November 7th! Interested teams, please fill out this interest form

To provide playing opportunities to kids without a school program while allowing schools to host their own practices and teams, AYU will be hosting middle school scrimmage days throughout the front range. These scrimmage days will consist of one hour of coach-led drills and skills development followed by one hour of gameplay. Sign up for one or multiple days >>

Congrats to YCC Teams

Cutthroat U20 breaks seed at the Youth Club Championships in Blaine, Minnesota earlier this month finishing 6th and second in the division in Spirit rankings!

COSmic U17 finishes 5th in their division and wins the Spirit Award in their division

AYU recognizes the outstanding work of our Cutthroat/YCC Director Hannah Matthys in creating and growing our youth club program! Hannah’s love and energy has provided so many opportunities for highly-motivated youth players and coaches. In addition to excellent coaching and tireless adaptability, Hannah has expanded youth club programming from summer all-star teams to a year-round experience, pursued competition and genuine connections with adult club and college teams, involved youth players and families in volunteer roles on our own teams and at the national-level tournaments in Colorado, and built equity and inclusiveness through conversations, training and scholarships. Thank you, Hannah, and all of our fabulous Cutthroat players, families and coaches!

Thanks to Volunteers

We want to thank all the volunteers who came out at Colorado Cup, Masters National Championships and Pro Champs - Colorado Cup!!! 160 teams from across the country came to Colorado to participate in these tournaments and we wouldn't have been able to host them without the amazing volunteers from the community.

We appreciate your time and commitment to offering great experiences to the players and fans who attend these events.  We received many comments from players thanking scorekeepers and water volunteers.

We will be contacting the top 3 individuals and teams contributing hours in both youth and adult categories. We will list these top contributors on our site, on social media and in the next newsletter.

Big thanks to everyone who helped make these great tournaments happen!

AYU Community Organizer

Altitude Youth Ultimate is looking for a Community Organizer to help us build relationships in the communities where we work and play, as well as share the joy of ultimate with racially diverse and historically marginalized communities in Denver.

This position would be part-time to start, but could develop into a full-time role in the future.

Altitude is committed to centering diversity, equity and inclusion in our work and has initiated programs to make our membership better represent the entire community. Some of these efforts have focused on new opportunities for younger players through new partnerships with organizations and in under-represented geographic areas. In addition to continuing this work, this person will work with us to develop the goals and vision for this role. We haven’t specifically had a Community Organizer position before, and we would encourage the person in this role to help flesh out the full vision for this role.

Interested? Learn more about this position here >>
