El Pomar Youth Park - Colorado Springs
- Top-notch event: We get great reviews every year from attending teams because we’re very organized and have good fields and amenities, great competition, substantial spirit award gifts and multiple nice touches like the showcase game (elite adult play) on Sat after play is done, with lots of pizza and sandwiches for spectators … plus more.
- Teams: this is a regional tournament, designed for 'travel' teams from anywhere in the country, to play against other established teams that travel out of state for competition. It’s scheduled for a couple to a few weeks after most states have concluded their state championships. In prior years we’ve had top teams from CO, UT, Northern CA, SD and AZ. This year we’re expecting those places to again be represented, plus hopefully entice some teams from Southern CA, the MidWest and maybe the NorthWest.
- Fees: $425

NEW for 2020:
- Site: El Pomar Youth Sports Park, 2212 Executive Cir, Colorado Springs, CO 80906 ... note that this is about an hour south of Denver
- Format: we're still going to have full days of games for teams on both day1/Fri and day2/Sat, but we may get creative about deciding the pools. It's possible that Colorado's state championship tourney will not happen on any of the May weekends that we're currently working on, and if multiple pieces fall together we may do something like put all the top Colorado teams in one pool at Mountain Invite to offer a psuedo state championship. Who knows if this can/will work out, so no need to worry about details now, but we'll be interested in input from attending teams to factor into our decision-making.
REQUEST => We're looking for preliminary estimates of numbers. Please email Finlay Waugh (email@example.com) with the number of teams, by gender, that you think you want to bring and also a current early self-assessment of whether you’re Definite / Likely / Maybe … or Decline. It’s totally fine to pick Maybe to communicate interest now, and just firm things up with your players and parents later when you can.
A few more details…
Hosting => like other big tourneys, we line up blocks of discounted hotel rooms nearby and that’s preferred by some teams. But for other teams, looking to save some money, we line up host families to provide free floor space and bathrooms.
Sat evening fun => we like the Fri/Sat format partially because it allows for teams to stick around for some non-competition fun without necessarily having to get on a plane or into a van immediately after finishing play. The tourney fee includes the cost of lots of pizza and sandwiches we hand out so kids can hang out and spectate and eat while watching top level adult Ultimate. In prior years we've had Molly Brown women and/or Johnny Bravo men as our showcase game teams, so those are both top contenders on the national stage, with multiple big name players on their rosters.
Talent ID Camp: we’re coordinating with USAU again and hosting a regional talent ID camp at the same site as the tourney, on Sun/Jun 14, so that’s the day immediately following Mountain Invite and hopefully some players and coaches will be able to take advantage of both Ultimate opportunities in a single trip.
