As part of the Monarch Invite tourney at Monarch HS in Louisville, we will be doing a GUM-sponsored clinic for younger-than-high-school girls, offering a fun introduction to the sport for any girls, including hopefully a bunch of younger siblings of players attending the high school tourney. The clinic is Sat/Oct14th 11a-noon, and it’s open and totally free to any girl who wants to attend, not just siblings. Girls who have never even thrown a disc before are encouraged to come see what the sport is about and how much fun it is!
This will be a fun introduction to the sport, intended to introduce the sport to girls who may have heard of ultimate but not actually played, or even have thrown a disc before. It’s open to any younger girl and it’s free. We’ll have Monarch’s head coach as a supervising adult coach, but most of the instruction and fun will come from high school girls as coaches for the day, so hopefully close-in-age role models. We’ll introduce the basics of Ultimate and the major skills of throwing, catching, cutting to get open and playing defense. It will last about an hour and we’ll end with an Ultimate game with a mixture of clinic girls, plus skilled older girls on the field to keep the action moving. We’ll finish with popsicles and some other treats.
Stuff for clinic participant girls:
- Every girl who attends will receive a new disc or other item to take home.
- Meet at ‘tourney central’ (tents near volleyball, behind the high school).
- Wear shorts – you’ll be running. Soccer cleats are better but running shoes are fine too
- Stuff for older siblings: If you send a sister to the clinic you win a GUM headband
